There is no better way to promote a band than by empowering its dedicated and enthusiastic fans to hit the streets to tell the world about the music they love. I can't express enough how much we appreciate your support and dedication as a fan of Skinny and now we would like to ask you to join the Official Street Team.If you are interested in helping in anyway (promotion, in store music promotion, cd representative, ie), please feel free to request any materials (cds, stickers, posters, hand bills, or digital media) @ contact@skinnyband.com or easily download the generic poster files to copy and distribute to your market area.
Why should you become part of our team?
Gain hands on experience working in the music and marketing industries.
Get to know your city, the local music scene.
Receive free CDs, tickets to shows and other exclusive promotional material.
Build your resume and put yourself ahead of the competition.
Give back to the band you love!
Becoming a Street Team
member will include working on the following:
Field Promotion: Field promotion requires you to saturate the market with Skinny stickers, posters and handbills. Although these projects are ongoing, we ask that you focus your efforts more heavily when Skinny is performing in a town near you. The website is updated frequently with all new tour dates. Field Promotion can be done in stores, or on the streets. If materials (stickers, handbills) are needed please feel free to email us at contact@skinnyband.com, or download from the links provided.
In-store Displays: You will be asked to help set up “displays” inside of stores. A display is a loose term that includes hanging up posters, and other material in creative ways. Many stores will allow you to hang up the material in the windows, by the check out register and on bulletin boards. The goal is for your display to be as visible as possible to customers (within the store-owner’s guidelines of course).
Retail and Lifestyle Stores: Many times store managers will allow you to leave a stack of handbills/stickers at the store-especially at record, clothing, book and video stores, again make sure that they’ll be noticed!
In-store CD Play: Feel free to offer a promotional copy of the CD to store clerks to play in the stores or bars. Be sure to provide the clerk with some additional info about the band, the songs, where interested customers can find out more info, what your favorite songs are, etc.
High Traffic Areas: Stickers and postcards/handbills should be given out in high traffic areas such as concert venues, sporting events, bars, arcades, college campuses and high schools. Many times you will receive posters that need to be filled out with tour dates, record release dates, or other information about the band. Posters should be put up on college campuses, main streets/intersections, parking lots, and basically anywhere a lot of people are likely to see them.
Locations: It would be impossible for us to list all of the locations where we would like you to distribute material– we trust that you are more familiar with your market then we are—please discuss alternative locations to promote at with the Street Team Supervisor. Here are some ideas to start you off.
Bars/Concert Venues, Hip Clothing Stores, Indie Record Stores, Coffeehouses, High School and College campuses, Radio Stations, Student Union bulletin boards, Libraries, Dorms, Greek Row, Kiosks, Musical Instrument Stores, Arcades/Bowling Alleys/Skating Rinks/Malls, Outside of Movie Theaters
Online Promotions: We feel that one of the best ways to promote a band is to talk about them online. We encourage you to infiltrate message boards and chat rooms. We emphasize that it is important NOT to just spam boards. Become a member and hang out for a while on various boards getting to know the members and whenever the opportunity comes, promote the band. We also feel that it is an important role of members to keep the Skinny family communicating and talking about the band on our own myspace page. We encourage all crew members to visit the skinny myspace page frequently to keep the current fans excited and the new fans interested. www.myspace.com/skinnyband
Marketing Reports: You are asked to provide the Street Team Coordinator with a short summary of the promotion you have completed. This is not to check up on you—this is for us to create a database of stores, radio stations, colleges and concerts that were visited, along with any feedback from fans both new and old that you might have come across while doing your project. If you have access to a digital camera and can provide us with some pictures of you in action and on the streets (of people holding up stickers, displays that you have set up, where you put up posters etc.) that would be a huge help to us. We’ll even feature your pictures on our street team page on the website!
In your summary please list the following:
1. Store name, location, what you were able to accomplish in the store (i.e. display, left postcards, took pictures)
2. Any college or high schools that you visited and distributed material at
3. Concerts that you attended and gave out material at
4. Any comments or questions people asked you when they saw/received the promo material
In addition to all of the above duties, if you would like to be a CD representative please email the Street Team Supervisor. If you think you can sell some CDs at your school and want to help in that way please let us know.
Make sure you email us the following information for our records: Name, Age, Address, Phone Number, Email Address, IM/AOL Name, Markets you can cover, colleges near you, and concert venues near you.
